Welcome to Nymeria
Nymeria was founded by Sherri Hall, whose life’s work has been dedicated to building healthy, respectful, and purposeful relationships between people and their canine partners.
Sherri’s journey with dogs began decades ago as a veterinary technician and evolved into a lifetime of hands-on experience as a professional dog trainer, competitor, breeder, and entrepreneur. For over 30 years, she bred and worked with Golden Retrievers while operating a wide range of K9-related businesses, including municipal animal control and shelter services, wildlife conflict management, bed bug detection, and a full-scale K9 event and training centre.
In 2021, Sherri and her husband Brad retired from daily operations, sold their K9 facility, and relocated seasonally between Minden, Ontario and Orange City, Florida. Retirement, however, did not slow the work—it refined it.
Scent Detection & Recovery Work
Among many dog sports and disciplines, scent detection has always been Sherri’s true passion. This led to the training of her first Human Remains Detection (HRD) dog, Zula, a Dutch Shepherd, followed by Talon, a home-bred Belgian Malinois. Together with dedicated handlers, these teams formed OSARC, training and deploying for recovery operations across Ontario.
One of the most profound and meaningful aspects of this work has been participation in Truth and Reconciliation projects, assisting Indigenous communities by searching former residential school sites for possible burial locations of missing children. This work has been deeply humbling and life-changing for all involved, and remains a responsibility Sherri approaches with the utmost respect and care.
Today, HRD and tracking remain central to Nymeria’s mission.
Working Breeds & Ongoing Training
Having grown up with German Shepherds and spent years working with high-drive working dogs, Sherri has a deep affinity for prick-eared breeds. As her senior working dogs aged, she sought new partners and found them in the White Swiss Shepherd.
Her foundation female Leda quickly proved exceptional, leading to the import of Drakon (“Kon”) from the Czech Republic. Both dogs are currently in advanced training for HRD work and continue to demonstrate the breed’s remarkable balance of stability, sensitivity, and drive.
Sherri’s lifelong interest in wolves and wolf-type dogs also led her to the Czechoslovakian Vlčák. Greta, imported from Russia, is currently training in tracking and represents another chapter in Sherri’s ongoing exploration of canine capability and partnership.
Film & Media Work
In recent years, Sherri was introduced to the film industry as an animal wrangler, working with both domestic dogs and wolves. She spent two seasons working on the CBC television series Strays and continues to enjoy select opportunities on set that allow her to combine professionalism, animal welfare, and training expertise.
A Continuing Legacy
While Sherri has stepped back from large-scale breeding, her legacy continues through her children:
-
MapleLane Golden Retrievers, operated by daughter Jennifer Hall, continues the family’s long-established breeding program under the Canadian Kennel Club.
-
CedarGrove Goldens, led by daughter Caitlin Luck, reflects the same commitment to health, temperament, and purpose-bred dogs.
-
Sherri’s son carries the family’s working-dog ethic into the outdoors through Outlaw Guide Service.
Nymeria represents both a continuation and an evolution—where experience, purpose, and respect for working dogs come together in service, training, and search work that truly matters.
